EP Review - Turns Out We Should Have Stayed At Home by Lucky Iris

Updated: May 11, 2020

The record tells its very own story and takes you on a journey from start to finish.

'Get ready with me' is an uplifting electro pop tune with Chvrches vibes, capturing that excitement of pre drinks and waiting for a big night out. With a catchy riff just bursting with energy you can see it being used on many a night out playlist.

'Take 5' harnesses Maeve's haunting vocals, and you can feel the melancholic anguish as the words “I feel so alone, yet I'm surrounded in here, deafened by the noise, frozen by my own fears” echo out. A sentence I think we can all relate to. I am not sure it's deliberate but the vocal is very reminiscent of Robyn and the parallels of this to her hit 'Dancing On My Own' really struck a chord with me.

'Glitter Vision' takes the tempo back up with a catchy beat and seems to be filled with an ASMR vibe in a Billie Eilish kind of way. Reminding you of being on the dance floor, surrounded by people, and losing yourself as the disco ball flashes overhead.

'I fell Backwards' draws the EP to a wonderfully heartfelt conclusion. Tugging on the heartstrings as Maeve's vocal range is once again showcased, highlighted by the moving piano accompaniment with a wonderfully powerful and emotive message.

With such a stunning debut EP, we can't wait to hear more from this exciting duo, and hopefully be able to see them live soon.
