Single Review - You Can Always Come Home by Tony Mac

Tony Mac is a singer-songwriter from Liverpool and has described his style as being indie folk/rock. Tony began his music career in his mid-teens, learning to play chords on the guitar from watching Stereophonics Live in Cardiff VHS. Throughout his late teens he played in a number of Liverpool based indie rock bands touring the UK with artists such as – The Charlatans, The View and Reverend and the Makers.

He's recently released his single You Can Always Come Home from his EP What's Yours is Mine. From the start its made clear the track is full of gravitas with a heavily strummed moody acoustic and backing sounds from strings and synth. The song reminds me of a moody Richard Ashcroft number like A Song for the Lovers or Starsailor. It's also evident in spades that Tony is an amazing singer with a unique gravelly powerful style and a range to compete with many accomplished long-lasting artists.

Tony builds up the aforesaid gravitas as he progresses through the track with added effects, even more powerful vocals and guitar work. I have to remind myself throughout that its not a track at the top of the indie charts although it deserves to be. What I am listening to is a professional-sounding, well-made, catchy as hell indie track. Overall, what we have here is a moody indie track showcasing the artists experience, powerful vocals and ability to create a well-written and great sounding song worthy of the charts.
