REVIEW - Better in the Know by Faraday

Faraday are a four piece indie rock outfit hailing from in and around Newcastle-under-Lyme. They have been cited as having "a mix of Peter Hook basslines, Noel Gallagher-esque vocals". They're currently hard at work recording their an upcoming single Lone Child at Sugar House Studios.

The band and their management The Driscoll Brothers have been kind enough to let me have a sneak peak of their next single Better in the Know, which they finished recording recently and is being released shortly. The song started out as a demo recorded when they formed a few years back. They've dusted it off and have now given it the Faraday treatment; rejuvenating it by giving it some studio attention; tweaking it and building it up to make it worthy of being a stand-alone single.

It's hard explain, but when listening to Faraday you get this euphoric resonance coming through, which is created by incorporating echoing vocals and guitar performed in such a way that it has maximum effect and leaves you wanting more. It is no different with their latest offering Better in the Know.

The song starts off with a clean cut guitar riff and falsetto vocals giving that aforementioned euphoria. Front-man Ryan Dooley then sings us through the song giving us well-sung catchy, verses and chorus. Other comparisons aside, I personally would compare Ryan's vocals to that of Elbow's Guy Garvey, as both have the power, skill and with eloquence. The song builds up the intensity and feeling by adding synth and enough carefully placed breaks throughout ensuring the song never gets boring or repetitive.

Overall, it's another great release from Faraday who refuse to be relegated to the subs bench, but instead are hard at it, gathering momentum; eager to build up their repertoire of songs, which have all so far hit the back of the net. This song further promotes the band and their expertise to create professional sounding urban anthems worthy of any stadium.

Better in the Know is released this Friday 22nd Feb and they will be supporting The Racket this Saturday at The Salty Dog.
