REVIEW - Know it for a Fact by The Racket

Updated: Feb 22, 2019

The Racket are a four piece indie rock band from Widnes, Cheshire. They're becoming increasingly prominent on the music scene nationwide of late and are showing no signs of stopping as they enter into a mini tour, stopping off at London, Manchester and Sheffield to name a few. It makes this fellow Widnesian very proud indeed to see a hometown band follow in the footsteps of other great Widnes bands such as Great and Lady Soul, Halfway to Eddies, 35 Summers & Zen Baseball Bat. No doubt it's certain they'll fair better given enough time.

Their latest music offering Know it for a Fact is a perfect mix of all of their influences from The Sex Pistols, The Libertines, The Stooges to name and few and showcases how a band should take their heroes' best bits and use them to mould and create their own sound. Initially sounding very punk-rock, the track from the start flings all standard music structures aside leaving out any sign of music intro and just giving us the bones of the songs straightway as front-man Callum blasts into the verse giving us a growling powerful performance along with a tempo provided by Dom, which will get anyone's foot tapping no doubt.

The song then surprises me with the addition of some great backing vocals and well-played guitar taking the song out of that pigeon-hole of punk rock. As these additions become evident, it is clear the song is definitely a force unto itself incorporating the best bits of rock and giving us something new and fresh. The beat takes us through, never relenting, before then powering into a chaotic, but brilliantly performed, crescendo before then leaving us as they started with an abrupt stop. While I'm a bit late to the game with this review, the song still is a pleasure to listen to now then when I first heard it earlier this year and it's good to put my thoughts into words. Check it out below and let us know what you think.

The Racket headline for us this Saturday at The Salty Dog, Northwich with support from Faraday and Hell Fire Jack (you can find their respective reviews on our site). We can't wait to hear all of the bands live. Its going to be a diverse mix of music, which will no doubt leave us wanting more. Be sure to turn up on the night to witness it for yourself.

They will also be headlining at our next event at Kash 22, Frodsham where they will be supported by Mondegreen.
