REVIEW - These Streets by BINES

Four piece indie rock band BINES have been taking the venues of the North West and beyond by storm of late and there appears to be no stopping. Instead, they appear to be going from strength to strength with a fresh new logo, renewed efforts to promote themselves and more importantly new music offerings.

Their latest, These Streets and accompanying song Red Rose, while released late 2018, is still in circulation on our playlists. We were introduced to the band when they helpfully stepped in to cover a slot at one of our past events and we've been fans since.

The first track These Streets starts off with a simplistic, almost tribal beat, enough to get anyone's foot tapping. The song builds up by adding bass and a guitar all piecing together a sound reminiscent of the sound that epitomised indie rock during the 90's. Lead singer Dan's unique vocals add a unique aspect to the song singing lyrics full of meaning and depth. The chorus gives us the audience lyrics easily sung back at the band and the beat ensures we'll be jumping about while doing so. The only criticism is that during the verses the clean riffing over the heavier rhythm needs to be a touch higher as it sometimes gets lost in the mix.

Red Rose offers another side to the bands sound. We are greeted a sounds from the streets, kids playing and the atmosphere to give the feeling that the song is a homage to where they call home. The song continues with a simple acoustic tune with string/synth accompaniment and a soft drum. The unique vocals take us through with deep and meaningful words. Again, the sound they have is reminiscent of indie rock at its peak, I'd even go to say it sounds like one of those Oasis B-sides we grew up loving and cherishing.

Overall, the EP These Streets is a great release to showcase the bands talent, unique style and diversity. The band say both songs are written about growing up in, what they call, the best town in the world, Leyland and it shines through the lyrics and performance throughout. The band showcase their light and shade, power and emotion through these two songs alone and we can't wait to see whats to come and any future releases.
