Single Review - There must be More to Life Than This by Hegarty

Hegarty are a five-piece acoustic country rock band hailing from in and around Bootle. Their music has been described as a fusion of rock past and present and this new track from them, There Must be more to Life Than This seems to be no exception.

The track from the off seems to lean heavily on an early 60s rock sound with that doo-wop drum style and beat and jangly guitar. This is further brought home with a xylophone and backing vocals. I'm loving it being a big fan of that era of music myself. Gravelly strong vocals from front-man David Hegarty, contrast with the clean rock sound provided by the band and takes us through the song. As David finds his stride in the song, there are times he sounds very like Kyle Falconer but others where he sounds like Guy Garvey. A sign of a diverse singer.

Overall, it's a calm floaty kind of song, like being in the shallow waters, but the song has a deeper undercurrent which sweeps you away with that question "There must be more to life than this". I enjoyed listening to the track. The track is a juxtaposition of being a light-hearted happy song, but is really a song with a deeper, sad meaning all contained in a professional sounding track, which you can't help but get lost in.
