Single Review - Summer by Midnight at 6

The song of the summer turned out to be a song titled Summer. Go figure! This track, due to be released on 14th August is from Midnight at 6, a five piece indie rock/pop band from Liverpool,

The track has a euphoric sound brought about by a nice sounding synth, jangly guitar and backing vocals. The feel-good vibes from the song are aplenty. I sense a vague similarity to that of The Polyphonic Spree. Who also manage to do the same, pulling off the act of recording and performing feelings of joy and happiness.

The song however, once you listen to the lyrics are all about that special summer romance and longing to get that feeling back. A song whose bright facade houses a deeper sad tone where a summer romance has been and gone and that sad feeling afterwards as you reminisce and yearn for it again with that special someone.

Lyrically, it's simple. That's a good thing. Sometimes you can get lost in words and this song's lyrics, however simple, puts across what it needs and it works. The repetition of the lyrics will ensure you will have it stuck in your head for days and the accompanying jangly guitar, up-tempo beat and synth-work will leave you wanting more. Overall, it's a great feel-good, toe-tapping and head-bopping song with a mixture of emotions and feels.
