Single Review - Sixties Hearse by Aligners

Sixties Hearse is the debut release from Aligners a four-strong indie pop/rock band from Runcorn, Cheshire.

Since forming not so long back it seems they have been sounding out the crowds as they played numerous gigs around the North West and we can vouch their songs were well-received, well at least at the gigs they performed for us and no doubt they carried on that trend at other gigs.

Sixties Hearse seems to be the result of all that tireless gigging and crafting their own sound on and off stage. This short and snappy number, counting in at just over two minutes showcases the bands sound well with their well-played instruments and front-man Nathan's powerful, but not shouting, vocals. The band have also felt comfortable at incorporating some nice-sounding effects to accompany the vocals, which add to the catchy lyric-riffage that Nathan sings in the chorus and slow breakdown afterwards. With the said breakdown the band manage to add plenty of light and shade to the song making sure that it never sounds samey throughout and surprises with their use of up-tempo build-ups and bringing it all down during the intro and outro. Very nice.

Overall, Sixties Hearse, disregarding it's slow intro is a great-sounding, up-tempo, indie foot-stomper, one which manages to give us the bands unique style of indie rock. The song is definitely a strong entry into the music scene's recorded offerings although I'd have liked it to have been a little longer, as it seems too short for the sound they have. They could have lengthened it with another breakdown as they did after the chorus followed by a crescendo of a chorus at the end in my opinion. At the length it's at its over before you know it. Maybe a longer track may have left more of an impact. Although, saying that, the song is a nice preview of what's in store for the band and leaves me eager to hear more. Great job lads!
