Single Review - Comes in Threes by Dr Orange

Dr Orange is a pseudonym used by Chas Moody, a prolific musician on the Liverpool Scene. Recently, he has emerged from his past indie/rock band Ladies' metaphorical cocoon and, feeling the itch to continue to flourish and further his music, has got back to work doing what he loves, making and performing his own style of music.

Comes in Threes is Dr Orange's debut single offering. The singles artwork is a simple segment of an orange ala Andy Wahol style. Could it be a statement that this track is just a bit of what's on offer from Dr Orange and more of the fruity goodness is to follow?

The track itself is is a slinky number reminiscent of the late-60's grunge/psych rock movement. There's nothing grandiose about the performance or complexity of the song opting to go for the feel of the music rather than any overly convoluted message; "it comes in threes, it comes in threes, it comes in threes"; it is what it is and that in itself is a statement saying out loud "here I am like it or lump it". I have to admit, from the thick raw grunge sounding guitar, to the high organ sound and the vocals full of attitude and charisma, what's not to like?

Overall, the track is a grungy, psych-rock track with a modern twist. It's designed to make you think and get lost in rather then having the message there in neon lights. Make of it what you will. Its segmented, like an orange, with enough light and shade for it to be enjoyable and not same-y and is great to listen to. Check it out.
