Single Review - Hours by La Scala

Hours is the first release from Runcorn based four piece indie rock/pop band La Scala. Relatively new on the music scene in and out of Liverpool but they've been actively gigging and making a name for themselves at all the well known venues.

It's a decent effort for a debut single and shows they can create a catchy, well-played and professional sounding track.

Delving into the song itself, a clean sounding guitar hook welcomes us to the song reminding me of a sound The Cure would make offering a certain kind of nostalgia and similarity. Front-man Nathan Greenfield shows he is able to sing his way through the song with a vocal style much suiting the song with his powerful and slightly gravelly performance.

Overall, Hours is a good effort from the band. The song doesn't claim to be anything other than a great sounding indie pop song regarding spending time with that special someone. The track manages to merge retro and modern sounds to make something special.

I do anticipate even better efforts from the band in future releases. Having heard the band live and being impressed with their energy on stage, I have every faith in the band that they'll be able to capture that energy and fresh sound in any future release from them. It's clear they may be still finding their sound and personality on stage, but its also clear they have the talent and determination to go the distance and mould the band into a force to be reckoned with.
