Softlad Promotions Presents #newmusic - The Shipbuilders // Hollows

There’s something about a good venue that keeps making us want to revisit time and time again. The Salty Dog, a relatively new establishment, has offered up their space for bands throughout the North West and beyond and nights, like us, to give said bands their time to shine. That’s why on the Friday 17th November we are hosting another SLP new music night bringing with us more new live music and the best indie tunes throughout.

During our time hosting live bands there have been bands that have impressed us enough to warrant us keeping an eye on them and saving them for further nights elsewhere. The Shipbuilders and Hollows are just two of the many amazing bands we’ve come to love and think they deserve more attention.

Hollows played for us last on the 22th July at an event at the Snig in Widnes, Cheshire. Beforehand I had posted a blog on what to expect on the night which can be found here.  After seeing them live, most of what was said before in the blog was true, but also that they showed a chemistry on stage that couldn’t be seen from their recorded songs nor from the social media.  Their sound, as expected, was a fusion of indie and electro pop and the aforesaid chemistry made their performance truly memorable. We are really looking forward to seeing them perform again and also having the chance to show their music off to a new audience.

The Shipbuilders, who played for us last on the 24th June, impressed us with their unique style of rock which they have described as “Scouse Surf Rock”. On the day and listening through their recorded music there is definitely a retro vibe, possibly an influence to the Merseybeat skiffle days, a raw energetic kind of rock from Liverpool’s rock origins but bringing the sound up to date with a modern twist. This coupled with their knack for writing a memorable and catchy song and the lead singer’s prowess backed by the rest of the band they impressed us and the audience on the night.

Both bands are definitely worth seeing on the night as they are sure to entertain with their different styles of rock.
